josh	# Posted: 1 Nov 2008 05:01 i am trying to go online with a new desk top. i am using a cable modem connected to a wireless router. i used an ethernet cable from router to computer and it won't work. what am i doing wrong?

The Cat5 from the Modem to the Router must go to the WAN or Internet port on the Router and the Cat5 from the Router to the computer can be from any of the others. Sometimes when you add or change hardware, you need to restart the network. To do this, turn off all computers and unplug the power to the Router and the Modem. Give about a minute with everything off. Then with all of your ethernet cables properly connected, start ONLY the Modem by plugging the power in. Give it a minute to boot. Then start the Router by plugging in the power cord and give it a minute to boot. Then start the computers. The sequence here is important. Don't try to shortcut the process. This should get you on line. If not post back with more info like the Brand and Model of the Modem and Router and who your ISP is.
