My Acer modem has Ethernet connection to internet through AT&T. We have another new computer/model in adjoining room and need to set up a router and then a plug-in card on the new modem. Is this correct? We're technically challenged.

Welcome to the forum Chelseagirl

I don't really understand your question. ??"then a plug-in card on the new modem."?? I don't know what your referring to.

To share a Cable Modem Internet connection you would generally use a Router which distributes the bandwidth to the computers connected to it.

A Cable Modem wouldn't have a way to "plug-in a card".

Perhaps this diagram will help.
