My husband and I (who are both quite computer illiterate!) bought a Motorola modem and a Comcast self-install kit. We hooked up the modem with no problem, but are getting an edit saying the network configuration isn't right. We have checked and re-checked the way we've hooked up the modem (using the ethernet option) and cannot understand what we are doing wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

I already have charter TV. I just today decided to use the self install kit. I am 64 years old and have been using the computer for 3 years. The install kit ssays "2 EASY STEPS"---YEA right. Inserted the disc, the screen that came up first is not the one that the pamphlets says. So I proceded to the 3 rd screen BUT when I put in name, account # and zip---I get a screen that says there isn't any packages?? WHAT packages??
I called 6 different people for help (from the # given) One in another country, couldn't understand the kid, and he was NO help.. Why do these big companies do this??
Anyway I have just spent over 2 hours trying to set an E-Mail address and no matter what I put in they say--NOPE-- Yet the people I talked to said that charter is installed WHERE?????????? CAN'T find it.......
WHY can't they make this simple enough for us old folk to do???? Why when the instructions say something that SOMETHING should be there..... You see they give out the free self install, but you can't get it to work and then you have to pay $50.00 to have someone else do it. REAL SMART.

If they say it is installed, they probably mean that your account is setup. There shouldn't be anything from Charter on your computer that you need to run to access the internet. Just try using Internet Explorer or Firefox to go to a website and see if it works.

If your Charter account is set up you should be able to set up your email from the Charter web based account itself.
Log in to your Charter account and there are settings there for creating your own email accounts. Hopefully that helps a bit!

No you can't just buy a new modem and connect it and have internet. The Cable Company uses the MAC address of the modem to identify it. If the MAC isn't allowed on their network, you won't have service.
