I'm using a Ubee U10c019 modem with Charter. I've had the wireless network up and running for a few years now. Last night, however, it stopped working. This happens occasionally and can usually be fixed by changing my channel. I tried that, but wireless still didn't work. Then I noticed that, on the wireless "Basics" screen, the "Interface" option is set to "disabled." The option is greyed out, so I can't change it to "enabled."

I looked up the user manual for the modem, and it looks like this option controls whether wireless devices can connect to the network. So, even though all of the other options are set up correctly, I can't allow anything to actually connect.

I've tried power cycling the modem (twice), resetting the wireless settings to default, and I even called Charter tech support (you can guess how helpful that phone call was). I've confirmed on both a wireless-enabled computer and on a Kindle Fire that my network isn't showing up.

Any ideas on how to enable this option? Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Guest network shows as "Disabled." I've never enabled it before. Any other ideas? It was working fine last night, and I haven't changed settings in some time, so I don't know why it would suddenly stop working.

As for the basic security of a combined modem/router, I guess I know just enough about these things to get myself into trouble, but not enough to actually "know" about them (if that makes sense). We're leasing our modem from Charter. I've looked into buying my own (to eliminate the leasing fees and save money), but I have no idea what brand/model to buy.

I went to "Advanced Gateway - Pass Through," entered the wireless MAC address (from the "Basic" wireless screen), and then hit apply. It looks like wireless still isn't working.

I e-mailed ubee customer service and they just responded. They provided a "secret" admin username and password that I used to log into the modem and reset that option. I do appreciate everyone's help here. Wireless is once again working.

So, any recommendations on a good modem and router to buy? I'd like to reduce my dependance on Charter as much as possible.
