Hi,
I have a Scientific Atlanta EPC2203 modem. I can connect with USB port, but i can't connect with ethernet. When I plug ethernet cable to my PC, it can't get an IP adress. When I set my IP manually, I can't connect. How can I fix this problem?
By the way, I couldn't find anything like driver. I just plug it to my PC. Should I do something before plug it? Like installing something...

When you do not have the ethernet connected to the modem is there a small icon near the clock that has two computers close together and a red X also? If not, you may not have your ethernet connection enabled or perhaps the driver for it needs to be installed.
Are there any errors shown in the device manager? Is there a Network Controller shown in the device manager? Go to Start > Run > devmgmt.msc and hit enter to view the device manager.

Yes, there's an icon like that, and there's no problem on device manager.
There isn't any driver for ethernet on driver CD, and I couldn't find any driver for ethernet on internet, too.

When you plug the ethernet cable into the computer and the modem, does the icon with the red X go away?
If so, you may need to restart the network. To do that, turn off the computer and turn off the modem by unplugging the power cord for it. Make the connection. Then start the modem only and allow it to boot. That takes about a minute. Then start the computer.
If the icon with the red X doesn't go away, you may have a bad ethernet cable or perhaps some other hardware problem such as a bad controller.

Red X goes away, but modem cannot get an IP. There's a small yellow-like triangle instead of red X.
I tried to restart the noetwork but it didn't work.

The yellow triangle indicates that your not getting a proper IP address for the network.
While the triangle is there, got to Start > Run > type "cmd" without the quotes and hit enter. In the black box, type "ipconfig" and make note of the IP address and post it here.
Do you know if you have you ethernet controller set to static or dynamic addressing?

Hi,
I started to have the same problem again, but it's a little different this time. I can connect with ethernet on my laptop but i can't on my desktop. I checked all the cable in the network system and all of them are working. However when i plug the ethernet cable into my destop it can't get a proper IP address. It gets an address like 169.251.112.1. What should I do?
By the way, I formatted my PC but i still have the same problem.

I have reread this thread and see that you, KmE, make no reference to using a router. When you change the device connected to the cable modem ethernet connection, you MUST restart the modem by unplugging the power cord, pause for about 10 seconds and then power it up again. Give it a minute to boot and then start the computer. The modem remembers what was connected to it and when you change that device, you must reset the modem.

Sorry you are right, I should have told about it. Now i have the connection with no problem. It seems i had a problem with the drivers. It's not the right topic, but how can I login to interface of this modem?

Most cable modems have some pages that a user can view at http://192.168.100.1
You can't usually make any changes but you can see the connection data and log file.

I'm facing the same issue as KmE. When I connect my DPC2203 modem direct into my laptop, it works really well. But when I connect it to my desktop, it shows the yellow warning for "limited or no connectivity", and even formatting my desktop and installing everything again, it is not working.
I type the IPCONFIG command in the DOS prompt, and the main IP address does not show up. I have tried using the IPCONFIG /RELEASE and IPCONFIG /RENEW, but this second one never worked. Not even my Linux could connect.
If I unplug my modem for a moment (as Shnerdly mentioned), and only after the modem is running I turn my computer on, should I be able to use the internet? It is just a too simple solution to believe.
I will try it once I'm back home.

Welcome to the forum buiatti.
The solution sounds too simple to work but the reality is that the modem remembers the MAC address of the device that is connected to it and won't release that device without a restart. So when you change the device connected to it a restart of the modem is ALWAYS required.
Some modems have a built in battery backup so the battery needs to be removed to get a clean restart on the modem.
