i recently bought a motorolla cable modem from someone on craigslist. When i called cox cable to get it activated they said it needed to be released. They rep said that the modem was still active to someones account. Now ofcourse i can't get the person who i bought it from to return my email. Is there away around this or am i screwed?

I would call and speak with a supervisor at cox. tell them your situation and see if they will attempt to contact the customer and get the ok to remove it from thier account. if for some reason they refuse and you have cable service....hook it up and see if it works

plug your computer strait to the modem. power cycle the modem. when everything is up and running go to START then RUN. type in cmd
at the command prompt type ipconfig/release
then type ipconfig/renew

The solution you offer is not relevant, pipo5832 is having a problem with the registered physical owner of the modem not a problem with the IP address.
