I've been asked to write a review of cable modems for a review website but I have doubts about the total available market.

My assumption is that the majority of people simply take the cable modem that comes with their ISP subscription. And if the ISP offers to lease or sell a cable modem, I assume that the ISP can offer a sales price that would beat any price from Best Buy or similar big box electronics stores.

Is there a market for cable modems outside of what the ISPs sell? What would be a useful slant on a cable modem roundup review?
