Currently I'm renting a 2.0 docsis modem from Comcast. It's a Scientific America DPC2. I started to rent this modem when I thought my Toshiba PCX1100U was going bad. I'm not sure now if it was the modem or cable wires leading to the modem. I have sInce had a dedicated wire from the pole just to the modem installed and the problem stopped.
I'd like to either re-install my Toshiba (and save the monthly rental fee) or purchase a docsis 3.0 modem IF I can see the download/upload speed increase. I've had comcast for about 4years now and was paying for "PERFORMANCE" speeds. Right now I have a free month of "BLAST" comcast but dont think I see much of a change.
Ssorry if I seemed to rattle on. Just learning about docsis versions and speeds. Should I buy 3.0 modem, should I continue with my 2.0 modem. Or are the speeds of the 3.0 and 2.0 moot point if all I pay for is BLAST. If that is true can I go back to my 1.0 Toshiba
IF I purchase a 3.0 modem, Will I see better results? Will comcast allow multiple channel bonding?

Welcome to the forum BruceY. Please try to post under a single user name. It lessens the confusion.

I haven't purchased one yet but I do intend to purchase a DOCSIS 3.0 modem in the near future. I do expect to see an improvement without changing my subscription.

I like the SB6120, it's Docsis 3.0 and backward compatible.

Welcome to the forum jesse.

You should try to put your posts in relevant threads. This thread is about opinions on which modem is best.

To answer your question. You can add a cable modem but you will need to register it with your ISP and they will add the modem to your bill. That means you will be paying for two cable internet connections.

The best and least expensive way would be to add a router if you don't already have one. Wires would be faster but wireless would be easier to setup depending on where your computers are located in your home.
